Carbonmade is a great portfolio website. I’m not a professional photographer, and I don’t really aspire to be, but it’s nice to be able to display a selection of one’s photos somewhere more polished than flickr, without having to shell out money for custom hosting with Apache / PHP & MySQL, and then actually having the expertise to set it up.
To be honest, I’m not a fan of flickr, it feels like it’s a half-baked solution that has evolved into a defacto standard, and photographers only need to have some presence on there because everyone else is. The Organiser is shit, the Pro account is expensive for what it is given how cheap online storage is thesedays, the forums and groups are less functional than any free opensource forum software and there are much better solutions out there. It feels like flickr hasn’t changed in years. Google’s Picasa for example is infinitely better, not to mention the quality of the application alone as a free photo editor. I rue the day that Yahoo! bought flickr, I can only imagine how much better flickr would be if it’d been bought by Google.
Anyway, excusing my segue into why flickr sucks, my carbonmade page has been updated and can be found here.
